Sea breeze, steppe grasses
The unique nature of the Dnieper delta, the coast of two seas with beautiful beaches, thermal springs, therapeutic mud – all this is very close, in the Kherson region. Of the three Ukrainian biosphere reserves, two are the Black Sea and Askania-Nova.
Do you want to spend several days alone with the river, listen to silence, sit midnight by the fire, spend the night in a tent? The skin of a kayak is basking in the sun, and it’s so good to put your palms in cool water – it’s very close. If you never held a paddle in your hand, experienced instructors will teach you. They will accompany you on a journey through the endless Dnieper floodplains – a labyrinth of 3 thousand channels and 3 thousand islands.
The director of the Kherson tourist company “Yumis” Yuri [ora says: “We are rolling out our program of hiking in tourist kayaks with visits to protected places (Biryuchy island spit, Dzharylgach island, Chaika green tourism base) for the second year already. The two-day program costs 295 UAH with meals, accommodation and all transfers. Three-day – 100 UAH more. ”
The Dnieper is divided into sleeves – Alder and Old. Our transfer longboat swims past the Big Potemkin Island, where the Zaporizhzhya Cossacks hid their treasures in ancient times. Now on its shores there are tiny country houses under willows, each has its own pier. You can become the owner of such a property for only $ 200-400 – non-transport communication. The hosts peer out at the noise of the engine. And when it subsides, pristine silence reigns again. Once life was seething here, motor boats and voyage longboats plowed these waters, settling under the weight of summer crops. Now, frightened white herons roam here, dividing the coast among themselves no worse than the coastal collectors of precious metals.
“THE SEAGUE”: UKRAINIAN EXOTICS
“0open the door with the key and come in, please!” – invites Alexander Dolinko. Having roamed the appropriate number of years in distant garrisons (among them were Moscow and Riga, Andijan and Namangan, Kokand), the infantry lieutenant colonel and his Galinka returned to their small homeland, to Golaya Pristan. We bought an unfinished house near Beaver Lake and create a green tourism base “The Seagull”.
Most often, “transit” tourists come here for a day. The owner says that people spending holidays on the sea get a little tired of sea water and ask for a river. And the truth is, would you look at the childish delight of adult large-sized uncles from the bridges in the river scaring the fry!
Alexander Dolinko sympathetically calls the city residents “balconies” (because their “communication with nature” is limited to accessing the apartment’s balcony) and shows them his Ukraine – a unique world of Dnieper floodplains and folk customs.
The longboat with an electric motor moves silently, and the local living creatures do not pay any attention to people – it continues to dine. Frogs are also not distracted by trifles – they sit on the wide leaves of water lilies and wait for Ivan Tsarevich, but most likely they will meet with some local heron. After a walk on the longboat, you can look into the ethnographic museum. The owner of “The Seagull” collects exhibits for him throughout the district. There is an impressive collection of money; starting from the pre-revolutionary and ending with coupons, Cossack cores, an old cradle, scales of unusual construction (“Fish places, here people have come up with all kinds of devices to fool each other,” the owner jokes), a trough from ” Tales of the Golden Fish “- a lot of things, and more … Where else, in what museum in the world would you be so easily allowed to rustle clay shards from Scythian dishes, which are 6 thousand years old?
If you wish, you can try to grind the grain on the millstone, go to the role of a blacksmith and touch the crosses – an old loom. Here is a Ukrainian exotic for the former “balcony”.
When the Falts-Feins left their estate forever in 1918, the trees they planted, which hardly survive in the sun-burnt steppes, were as tall as a man. Today it is a whole forest, shady and cool.
Svetlana Veselaya, head of the environmental propaganda sector of the Askania-Nova Reserve, says that if earlier visitors were happy to visit the botanical park and the zoo, now everyone wants to see the wilderness clean. The most demanding is the Safari – monitoring the life of animals in the steppe spaces. The animals are kept, one might say, in freedom – in seven enclosed fences (the area of the largest
– 1,5 thousand. hectares). An excursion to the reserved steppe lasts 2-3 hours. A trip in a minibus will cost 30 UAH., On a cart – 100 UAH. (per person). But everyone who wants to go to the steppe cannot, because the limits are set: 5 thousand, people by car and 1 thousand in horse-drawn carriage. And this year, due to the fire hazard, the steppe was “closed” at the end of May. The heat was such that even a camel was hot in the zoo …
